Tomar launches the Nafed honey processing unit in Morena

Union Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a honey processing unit in the village of Devri, Morena district, South Korea. Madhya Pradesh. Morana is the parliamentary constituency of Tomar.

Tomar praised the efforts of NAFED, represented by its Director General Sanjeev Kumar Chadha on the podium, for its remarkable efforts to help farmers double their incomes, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The cornerstone laying ceremony was organized by NAFED with assistance from the National Bee Board, FPOs and cooperative societies. The function was also attended by Bharat Singh Kushwaha, Minister of State, Government of Madhya Pradesh, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that it was high time that other sources of income were found for the farmers who made their living solely from agriculture. The government wants farmers to come together and form FPOs to meet their needs, Tomar added.

Welcoming Nafed’s role for farmers since its inception on October 2, 1958, the minister said that Nafed, through its technical partner, the Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP), promotes honey FPOs in the framework of the central sector training and promotion program of 10,000 FPO anchored by the ministry and supported by the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM).

He explained that FPOs would help marginal and landless small farmers, as well as beekeepers, gain better access to market, capital and technology. He assured that in the future too, all possible help would be provided to farmers to double their income.

The Minister wished the FPOs of beekeepers developed by Nafed in states such as Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal good luck. About four to five thousand honey producers would be associated with these five honey FPOs.

Giving a rough estimate, the minister informed that around 60,000 quintals of honey would be extracted and processed in processing units and sold directly to consumers with the help of NAFED. Along with the production of honey, the technical know-how and the export of their products would also be provided as part of the overall development project of honey producers, he hoped.

NAFED General Manager Sanjeev Chadha, FIFA General Manager Pankaj Prasad Singh, Rajbir Singh and General Manager of the National Horticulture Board were also in attendance, as were farmers and FPO representatives of beekeepers and honey production. .
