The Simple Tips Hay Fever Sufferers Should Know to Enjoy London Summer Again

For some of us, hot weather means more time in the garden and parks as the days get longer and warmer. For others, it means a runny nose and itchy eyes.

The use of our shower is simple but effective.

Showering before bed will wash away all the pollen collected on the body / hair since the day and prevent it from spilling into the bed. Less exposure to pollen at night means waking up with less irritation.

Pollen counts are highest at night and in the morning, so try to keep your windows closed during these times. Using sunglasses is also very helpful in grassy areas, any eye and nose protection can help prevent pollen impact.

Placing petroleum jelly or lip balm around your nose and eyes before bed is also a smart trick for trapping pollen. It can be done during the day, but it can be uncomfortable to walk with it on your face all day.

Regular vacuuming and dusting of the house removes pollen from the house and also has the benefit of keeping your house tidy. Regularly cleaning sheets and clothing will help prevent pollen from clinging and causing irritation.

The use of hay fever medication cannot be overlooked, some older antihistamines are known to cause drowsiness. Nasal sprays and eye drops are also helpful for those who are in severe pain.

By following these tips and keeping an eye on your daily pollen count, hay fever shouldn’t stop you from enjoying summer and all of the beautiful green spaces London has to offer.

If hay fever becomes a big problem and stops everyday life, medical advice may be taken and a visit to the general practitioner would be advised.
