Ten things to do in North Fork in November

November on North Fork means cooler weather and a slower pace. And while the beaches can be empty and the sidewalks less crowded, there are still plenty of ways to take advantage of the so-called off-season.

START THE CHRISTMAS SEASON WITH SOUTHOLD’S LARGEST ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING

The magical candlelight tour and Christmas tree lighting of the Southold Historical Museum returns to the Maple Lane Historic Building Complex at 55200 Main Rd. At 3 p.m. on Friday, November 26. Admire the lovely decorations, meet Santa Claus in the barn, and watch demonstrations of carpentry, blacksmithing, basketry, printing and the art of fiber. Visit historic buildings including the 18th-century Thomas Moore House and the Victorian Ann Currie-Bell House. Children will have fun on the lawn with the help of Santa Claus. There will be live music throughout the event, and light refreshments and small gifts will be available for purchase. Tree lighting is at 5 p.m. Free entry.

MAKE A WREATH WITH DRIED FLOWERS FROM THE WINE

During this two-hour workshop led by local floral designer Jane Greenko, you’ll create your own beautiful seasonal hanging decoration using locally grown, organically and sustainably grown flowers and plants. Decorate metal hoops or rustic vine wreaths with an assortment of dried flowers, herbs, and botanical bouquets to capture the spirit of North Fork. The two-hour class, which takes place this Thursday, November 4 at 6 p.m., is hosted by Suhru Wines and the cost of $ 65 includes all materials to make your own 10-inch hoop or wreath and a glass of Suhru wine. GO FROM HALLOWEEN BY LACQUERING A PUMPKIN

By now, we’re sure you’ve had enough of Halloween. So prove it by entering the Town of Riverhead’s first Punkin ‘Chunkin’ contest on Saturday, November 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park soccer field in Calverton. You build your own tightening mechanism and see how far you can fly a pumpkin. Trebuchets, slingshots and other technical creations without electrical components are eligible. The split will begin at 11:00 a.m. It’s $ 10 to participate. You can register for the event here.

LET A REMARKABLE NORTH FORK BEE-KEEPER TEACH YOU HIS CRAFT

ENJOY A WINE TASTING DINNER AT A TOP EAST END RESTAURANT

Okay, so it’s not the North Fork, but this Hampton Bays winery and restaurant combo is worth the trip. Have an incredible evening this Thursday, November 4 as Palmer Vineyards presents a Wine Tasting Dinner at Cowfish, an event that only takes place a few times a year. The 6:30 p.m. at $ 90 dinner features five dishes expertly crafted by our chefs, with each off-menu dish paired with a wine that celebrates the Long Island wine region. COUNTRY STYLE DANCE IN A BELOVED HORSEBACK

Country dancing with live music will take place on Saturday, November 13 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue. The event features live music by Urban Rodeo and line dancing. The doors will open at 7 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks. Tickets cost $ 25 and must be purchased in advance. To buy them, go to the equine rescue website. Proceeds from the events will benefit equine rescue and the animals they help.

TASTE THE LOCAL WINE AND EXPERIENCE THE AQUATIC LIFE

Long Island Aquarium’s Fish & Sips event in Riverhead will feature tastings at over 20 local wineries and breweries on Friday, November 12. Taste Long Island wine and beer, see marine life on display at the aquarium, and dance to live music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $ 75 per person at longislandaquarium.com.

RACE FOR THE FUTURE OF A STUDENT IN MATTITUCK

The Mattituck-Laurel Civic Association is hosting its first 5K Walk / Run on Sunday, November 7 at Mattituck Veterans Park. Proceeds from 5K will be donated to the Civic Association’s $ 1,000 scholarship fund for a 2022 Mattituck High School graduate.
