It’s “Takeaway Tuesday” and this week, we present the beautiful, Honey Moon Spirit Lounge. Whether it’s a happy hour with the girls, a night out with your sweetheart, whatever the occasion, it is sure to become your neighborhood hangout.
The concept behind Honey Moon Spirit Lounge was created when Adrienne Wiggins and Reed Calhoun were planning their wedding which was postponed due to Covid. Reed Calhoun is a 25 year veteran of the hospitality industry, with years at Enoteca Vespaio and Homeslice Pizza. He was also a longtime musician, frequently on tour with his band Bee Caves. When the music slowed down due to the pandemic and Reed and Adrienne had to put wedding and honeymoon plans aside, they created their own Honey Moon Spirit Lounge as a space where they could celebrate their love and express their passion for hospitality.
The menu features dishes like Koji-Aged Steak Fries; Smoked Birria Terrine; Hot Seoul chicken fried with duck fat; Vegan barbecue with burnt ends; Confit Chicken; Chilli cheese; Chicken Liver Mousse; oysters from the east coast; King crab tarts; and a plate of Chef’s Selection cheeses. The candy section includes a handmade Applejack bourbon pie; Guanaja dark chocolate tart; and Toasted Marshmallow, Coconut and Chocolate Ganache. All protein is sourced from local, independent Texas farms, along with most of the menu items.
Honey Moon Spirit Lounge evokes an ethereal and dreamlike atmosphere; the antique-inspired French-inspired interior is designed to invoke a sense of whimsical escape through jeweled tones and dramatic lighting, studded with carefully preserved antiques throughout the space. The antiques have been carefully collected by Wiggins and Calhoun from all over central Texas, sourced from Round Top, La Grange and New Braunfels. The space also has a spacious front and rear patio, suitable for dogs, with antique chandeliers throughout the patio and interior.
The bar at Honey Moon Spirit Lounge features a stunning early 20th century inspired bar designed by Reed Calhoun and built by Mike Sellman (Chop), with the aim of inviting patrons to stay, soak up and take dinner and cocktails. The beverage program spearheads by bar manager Mallory Valentine, a 20-year industry veteran, previously at Loca d’Oro and Bonhomie. The wine program is led by certified sommelier Gretchen Van Eck, formerly of Olamaie and Gardner. The overall bar program is a nod to classic bar menus with an emphasis on fresh juices and bespoke ingredients, including an extensive and diverse wine list featuring grape varieties from around the world. A selection of beers and ciders and a tap of local craft beers are also on offer.

Reed Calhoun – Operating Partner and Director
Reed Calhoun has 25 years of experience in the restaurant / bar industry. After moving to the Austin area in 2006, he worked and managed some of Austin’s most successful establishments including Enoteca Vespaio for 6 years and Homeslice Pizza for 4 years, both making numerous list appearances ” Best Of “in Austin in The Statesman. , Austin Chronicle, Texas Monthly, and Austin Monthly. After taking snippets of every experience over the past two decades, he has reached the pivotal moment where the obvious next step is to fulfill his dream of owning and operating his own successful bar / restaurant, all while focusing on what he knows best: the people, food, drink and exquisite service.
Adrienne Wiggins – Operational Partner and Director:
Adrienne Wiggins has worked in the service industry from time to time since the age of 16. Whether in catering, fashion or design, she has always loved taking care of people. She worked in the fashion industry in Los Angeles for a few years after college before returning to her home state of Texas where she and Reed began to imagine this beautiful collaboration which is a perfect marriage of their creativity and their love of people. Adrienne Wiggins has spent the past 9 years managing real estate and residential properties in Texas and California. With a background in land management, she continues to oversee the various land and mineral rights she has spread across West Texas. After investing in two real estate properties in downtown Austin, Adrienne recently completed her Texas real estate course with the intention of expanding her knowledge of the ever growing Austin market. With a degree in communications and a natural instinct for leadership, Adriennel combines his experience in catering and bartending to create a thriving environment for success.
Executive Chef Manuel Rocha III:
At the age of 8, he fell in love with the kitchen as he watched his mom in the kitchen make all of their meals from scratch, including her favorite homemade tortillas. Manuel has had experience in Austin kitchens including Hopfields, Academia, and Bonhomie. Honey Moon Spirit Lounge is like a home away from home for Chef Rocha; not only a strong and supportive family, but they also provide it with the means to exploit a new style.
Chef Rocha says his beautiful wife and daughter motivate him to get up and create something new every day; be better than he was the day before. He proudly serves each dish with excellent family style portions; so you, your family and friends can experience a bit of everything.
I want to answer everyone… A lot of people have dietary restrictions, and I like to keep these things in mind when creating a menu.
Honey Moon Spirit Loungeopening hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday to Thursday and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday to Saturday (the kitchen closes at 10 p.m.), closed on Mondays. They are located at 624 W 34th St, Austin, TX. Indoor dining, patio seating and bar seating are available. One must reserve.
