Ryan Reynolds Mint Mobile Ad Capitalizes on Winnie-the-Pooh’s Public Domain Status

With AA Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh now in the public domain, Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds is wasting no time creating his own version to promote Mint Mobile.

With AA Milne’s first Winnie-the-Pooh book now in the public domain, Ryan Reynolds shared a new take on the story to promote his cell phone company, Mint Mobile.

In a short video, Reynolds presents the story of “Winnie-the-Screwed” and his big wireless bill. The video shows Winnie’s desperation over his big bills and lack of money and is used to promote a current three-month free offer from Mint Mobile. As Reynolds explains in a comment posted alongside the video, “I took some creative liberties, but it stays pretty close to the source material. I just added Mint Mobile and changed ‘honey’ to ‘silver’. really…”

US copyright laws generally provide for a retention period of 95 years for published works and, as of January 1, both Winnie the Pooh by AA Milne and Felix Saten’s Bambi, a life in the woods became public domain. This is why Reynolds’ video can adhere so closely to the original without fear of legal action.

This isn’t the only recent Reynolds commercial that relies on nostalgia and known properties, as he was also involved in a series of ’80s commercials for ABC. The commercials were produced by Reynolds’ film production company Maximum Effort and originally aired during the ABC show. Live in front of a studio audience. Reynolds has many different business ventures and recently announced that he is taking a hiatus from filmmaking. After packing the production on Fiery along with co-stars Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer, Reynolds said it was “the perfect time for a little sabbatical from filmmaking. Every second of working with this group of incredibly gifted creators and artists is going to keep me going. to lack.”

With a filming break in the cards for Reynolds, the production schedule of the highly anticipated Deadpool 3 stay in the air. In August, ahead of his hiatus comments, Reynolds discussed the chances of Deadpool 3 will go into production in 2022. “I would say maybe 50/50?” he remarked. “We’re really actively developing it and getting it in pretty good shape.
