BENZIE COUNTY – The ‘What’s the Buzz About Native Bees‘ presentation explores nesting habitat, life cycle, pollen collection, brood rearing and general characteristics of common genera of native Midwestern bees, eastern United States and southern Canada.

The program is part of Plan it Wild’s native plants and animals programs and will be held at 7 p.m. on July 21 on Zoom. Email [email protected] to register.

The pollination of native plants and the mutualism between native plants and native bees are also highlighted. Bee expert Heather Holm will discuss the presentation of floral resources and how the physical characteristics of bees can influence their effectiveness as pollinators.


Holm is an award-winning author and nationally sought-after speaker who spends much of her time passionately educating the public about the fascinating world of native bees and the native plants that support them. His first book, “Pollinators of Native Plants,” was published in 2014, his second book, “Bees,” published in 2017, won six awards, including the 2018 American Horticultural Society Book Award and his latest book, “Wasps, “was published in 2021.

Holm’s expertise includes the interactions between native bees and native plants, as well as the natural history and biology of native bees found in the upper Midwest and Northeast.
