While for some, the sunny summer months bring the return of barbecues and beer gardens, for others, it causes sneezing, coughing and a runny nose.

People with hay fever have reported particularly severe symptoms this year, with the Met Office’s daily pollen forecast showing high levels throughout this week.

For those whose travel outdoors causes itchy eyes and a runny nose, a doctor shared his top three tips for banishing symptoms and enjoying the summer weather – but warned you might not like the latter.

Dr Karan Raj won millions of fans on TikTok with her tips and informative videos, and recently answered a question from a viewer who wanted to know how to overcome symptoms because they were “driving her crazy”.

Dr Raj said alcohol could make your symptoms worse

Another fan said: “Does anyone find that this year, in particular, their hay fever is really bad? I usually have it pretty mild but this year I’m really in pain.”

Listing his favorite tips, the doctor advised, “Put petroleum jelly or coconut oil around your nostrils. It traps pollen and prevents it from entering your airways and sensitive tissues.

“If you are coming from outside, take a shower, wash your hair and change your clothes. There will be a lot of pollen lurking on your hair, body parts and clothes that you need to get rid of.

“Finally, limit your alcohol intake. Alcohol can increase the levels of histamine in your body – it’s a chemical that increases symptoms of inflammation and allergy. Stick to virgin mojito. . “

The video has been viewed over 1.3 million times, as one commented to confirm, “THE FIRST (Vaseline around your nostrils) WORKS GUYS I’ve been doing it for years.”

A second suggested, “Try chewing raw ginger too! My aunt taught me that and it really helps me in 5-10 minutes.”

And another joked, “No alcohol !? As if hay fever doesn’t make me miserable enough already.”
