Company’s municipal council adopts bee ordinance

ENTERPRISE, Alabama (WTVY) – An ordinance creates a lot of buzz around the City of Progress.

The council passed an ordinance to keep bees within city limits.

Beekeeping is a $ 15,000,000,000 industry and it all starts with a beehive.

“For most beekeepers, on average we get about 50 pounds of honey with a 10-frame hive. “

Woodham’s passion for bees led him to ask City Council how they could be kept within limits.

“It rocked everything for us and the bees,” said Scotty Johnson, Enterprise City Councilor, District 4. “It took a while, but the council really did what was needed for the bees within the boundaries of the city.”

This new ordinance has the potential to bring even more local products to local sites.

“It will bring a good variety of honey to our community,” Johnson continued. “Some of the people that come to the farmers market are outside of our community, outside of Coffee County for it, but now we can start growing honey and bees and everything in our town.”

At the end of the day, Woodham says his goal for the ordinance is to give others the chance to fall in love with the hobby like he did.

“I want to give children, youth, young adults and families something to do so that they can do things together and enjoy it,” said Woodham.

If you want to keep the bees within the city limits, you can find more information at Enterprise City Hall.
