This marks the second time that Guthrie has publicly reached out to the kidnappers via video, just days after her mother, Nancy, was last seen. The urgency of the situation has escalated as investigators continue to comb through the desert area surrounding Nancy's home in Tucson, Arizona.
Adding to the tension, President Trump announced during a flight on Air Force One that investigators have uncovered some "very strong" leads, suggesting that answers regarding Nancy's whereabouts may be forthcoming. He mentioned, "There is information that could emerge from the Department of Justice or the FBI soon, and it could potentially be definitive. A lot has transpired in recent hours concerning this tragic event."
Details surrounding the latest message remain unclear, including its connection to the kidnappers. The FBI and local sheriff's officials have acknowledged awareness of this new communication, affirming that they are thoroughly examining the validity of the information provided.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen by her family shortly after 9:45 p.m. on Saturday night, which coincided with the opening and closing of her garage door. Not long after, at approximately 1:47 a.m., authorities noted that her doorbell camera had disconnected. Previously, an empty frame from this camera had been recorded earlier at her residence.
At around 2:12 a.m., a motion detection alert from one of the home’s security cameras registered either a person or an animal moving, although Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos indicated they have been unable to recover that specific footage to determine the source of the movement.
Approximately fifteen minutes later, at 2:28 a.m., Nancy's pacemaker app reported a disconnection from her phone, suggesting that this was when she left her home since her phone was left behind.
Worried about her well-being, her family checked on her before noon on Sunday after she failed to arrive for church. They quickly contacted the authorities to report her missing.
A ransom note is believed to be central to the search efforts for her. Although the entire content of the note has not been publicly disclosed, certain elements have been revealed. According to Heith Janke, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Phoenix division, the letter included an initial deadline of 5 p.m. Thursday and a subsequent demand with a deadline set for Monday, though he refrained from discussing the nature of the requests or any potential threats associated with these deadlines.
Harvey Levin, founder of the celebrity news site TMZ, reported having reviewed one of three identical letters sent out to media organizations. He stated to CNN that "the Monday deadline holds significant importance." TMZ further revealed that they had received the alleged ransom note via email earlier in the week, which reportedly demanded millions in cryptocurrency for Nancy’s release. Levin confirmed that the bitcoin address mentioned in the note was legitimate.
