- Homemade Recipes for Making False Eyelash Glue [DIY Ways]
It’s 11 pm. You’re at home binge-watching that latest episodes of your fave show and then your crush calls and they want to come by. You need to get dressed ASAP! In between feverishly cleaning your apartment and trying to decide what to wear, you realize that all of your lash glue is gone. What do you do? It may seem like a lost cause but you can still get the look you want in no time flat without the help of a conventional eyelash glue. With just a few, simple ingredients from your home, you can create an authentic glue you can use in a pinch. Besides coming in handy, an alternative glue can be great for individuals who have allergic reactions to store-bought false lash adhesives. If you’re one of those people, don’t think that you can’t sport false lashes. In fact, many of the components you can use are all-natural and contain less of the harsh chemicals than what you’d find from a mass-produced brand. With just a few classic ingredients and a bit of derring-do, you can be stylishly chic in minutes.
What You Will Need for DIY Eyelash Adhesive
(A word of caution: DO NOT. We can’t emphasize this enough, DO NOT use industrial-strength items like super glue or wood glue. Not only will that damage the integrity of your false lashes, but it will also hurt your real lashes and the skin around your eye as well. It may even cause blindness!) Total Prep Time:5 minutes
Essentials:
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 or 2 drops of raw or organic honey
- 2 tablespoons of water
- About a drop of non-toxic white glue
- A plastic mixing cup
- Q-tips
- Wooden stick or spoon
- Eyelash curler
- Mascara
- False lashes
- Tweezers
Step One: Clean your eyes and face using a gentle facial cleanser. Comb your own lashes through with a little bit of mascara and gently curl them with an eyelash curler. Apply any eyeliner and eye make-up before continuing your lash application. Make sure you also have a mirror and good lighting. You want to be sure that you can see exactly what you’re doing and where the lashes will be going. The last thing you’d want is skewed or crooked lashes. Step Two: Combine the glue, honey, and water in a mixing cup with a wooden stick or spoon until you have a uniform mixture. Step Three: Once you have prepared the glue, take out the lashes from their packaging using the tweezers. Lash pro-tip: Lashes can often become flat when they’ve been sitting for too long in a box or in storage. You can get them “back into shape” by doing this simple exercise: wrap the lashes around your finger. (You can use any number of other tools as well, including makeup brushes or even pens). Fluff the inner and outer edges and prepare to apply them. Do this every once and a while to keep them from becoming flat. Step Four: Dip a Q-tip into the mixture and place a dab along the lash line of the false lashes. Don’t overdo it. You want just enough to secure your lashes. If you’d like the glue to be especially tacky and long-lasting, you can utilize a “double glue” technique. This includes adding a few dots of glue along your lash line as well. Try not to get any of this directly in your eye! Step Five: Affix the lashes as you normally would. Hold it in place for at least 30 seconds so the glue mixture can adhere. Step Six: Repeat step five as many times as needed to achieve the look you want. Step Seven: Straighten any lashes that aren’t centered or straight, and then use an eyelash curler to curl the lashes. Then blend in the lashes with an eyelash curler and mascara wand. Apply any make-up or contouring as you normally would. *Be aware that the glue mixture lacks many of the additives and preservatives of traditional eyelash glue. Once you have created your concoction, it is not recommended to keep for future use. If you plan on using this recipe in the future, be sure to make a fresh batch each time. Optional substitutions: If you don’t have any honey, you can use other ingredients. This glue recipe can also be modified to fit any unique needs. If you’re a person that has a honey allergy, you can substitute the honey with light or dark corn syrup. Other substitutes can include a syrup made with water and granulated sugar.
Sugar Syrup Substitute:
What You’ll Need:
- 1-1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions:
- Place the sugar and water into a pot over medium heat. Stir constantly, until the sugar dissolves.
- Once you’ve achieved a syrupy consistency the mixture is done. Once the mixture has sufficiently cooled, you can replace the honey in the recipe with this sugar/water substitute.
You can make up to ¼ cup of substitute with this recipe. It’s all pretty simple. This is a great option if you’re especially sensitive to any kind of glue material. Many makeup mavens have bemoaned the fact that adhesives can cause them undue pain, including red, itchy or irritated eyes. Not to mention that the costs of buying adhesives really start to add up over time. Removing the glue is just as easy. Wash your face with a mild cleanser. It may be tempting to do but resist the urge to pull or twist at the false lashes. This could lead to not only the false lashes coming off but a few of your real ones as well. Follow up with an oil-based make remover and the lashes will slip right off. Clean your false lashes with a mixture of the facial cleanser and water. Make sure you keep your lashes in a cool, dry place to avoid them becoming damaged. And that’s all. You’ll have the look you want just in time for that evening with your crush, a night out with friends or any other event.
