The 2025 Mountain West Football Championship is shrouded in anticipation, with the participants and host still unknown! But who will make it to the big game?
On Sunday, November 30th, the morning will bring clarity to the eager fans in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The championship contenders will be unveiled, and it's a close call! Boise State, New Mexico, and San Diego State have all finished with impressive 6-2 records in MW play. UNLV could join this elite group if they secure a win against Nevada on Saturday, matching the 6-2 record.
Here's where it gets technical: a composite average of computer metrics will decide the participants. These metrics include Connelly SP+, ESPN SOR, KPI, and SportSource rankings. Once the two lucky teams are identified, the host will be determined by a head-to-head comparison, unless the teams haven't played each other this season, in which case the metrics will decide again.
And this is where it gets even more intriguing. If only Boise State, New Mexico, and San Diego State are tied, they all have a 1-1 record against each other. So, the computers will step in to break the tie, and the top two teams will advance to the MW Championship game. But if UNLV joins the party, all four teams haven't faced each other, and the computer metrics will once again be the judge and jury.
The championship game, scheduled for Friday, December 5th, will be a prime-time event, airing on FOX for the sixth consecutive season. Mark your calendars for a 6 p.m. MT/5 p.m. PT kickoff, with the Mountain West Network Pregame Live Show setting the stage.
Will the computer metrics cause any upsets? Are there any dark horses in this race? The answers will unfold as the championship picture becomes clearer. Stay tuned, football fans!
