119-year-old ‘oldest person in the world’ attributes long life to butter, honey and cheese

A woman claims to have celebrated her 119th birthday, which makes her the oldest person in the world.

Seker Arslan of Turkey celebrated the astonishing stage surrounded by his family in the northern town of Amasya, local media reported.

According to her driver’s license, she was born on June 27, 1902, making her 119, a landmark she celebrated on Saturday.

But it turned out that his family had made a mistake in their calculations and that he was offered a cake for his 120th birthday on Sunday.

Ms Arslan has six children, 12 grandchildren and appears to have inherited her longevity from her mother who is said to have lived to be 110 years old.

the Daily mail reports that her daughter, Serap Yueksel, attributed her mother’s long life to consuming natural foods such as butter, honey and cheese.

Serap said: “The butter, honey and cheese were always on the table. She used to proof her yogurt herself. She always has a hard-boiled egg for breakfast.”

She added that although her mother has Alzheimer’s disease, she has otherwise remained healthy.

Yueksel reportedly said his mother’s only regret was that she didn’t have any great-grandchildren to add to her family tree yet.

Seker is still surrounded by parents and lives with her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren.

The family got scared when they caught Covid-19 six months ago.

But despite sharing the same space as their elderly relative, they did not transmit the virus to him.

According to Turkish media, Seker thanked his family during the anniversary celebration.

“Thank goodness I didn’t even get sick. I didn’t even get the coronavirus. You have the disease, neither do I,” she said.

The 119-year-old spent most of her day praying and recalling the memories of her long life.

She had a remarkable life and lived through World War I, the Spanish Flu pandemic, the fall of the Ottoman Empire, World War II, the Cold War and now the Covid-19 pandemic.

She also received a visit from Mesudiye Altun Guerlevik, president of the local women’s section of the ruling Justice and Development Party, who wished her a happy birthday.

Local authorities want her birthday recognized so she can claim the title of oldest living person.

She passed the current record holder, the Japanese Kane Tanaka, born six months later than Seker, on January 2, 1903.

Kane is currently the oldest confirmed person alive, 118 years old.

But if Seker’s is confirmed, she would top the list of the world’s exclusive group of living super-centenarians, those over 110.

The oldest person on record was Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who lived between February 21, 1875 and August 4, 1997 until the age of 122.
